Documentation
handoff-it is the central, cross-machine memory of your AI conversations. Transcripts from Claude Code, Codex and friends are synced from every machine, and any AI can pull the distilled context back via MCP / REST API.
Quickstart — first recall in minutes
1. Create your account and a key
Sign up for free, then generate an API key in Dashboard → Keys & MCP. The key (hof_…) is shown once.
2. Sync a machine
On any computer with conversations, run npx handoff-it init --server https://handoff-it.com --key hof_… and then npx handoff-it sync (or watch to keep it continuous). Secrets are redacted locally before upload.
3. Connect your AI and recall
Add the MCP server to your tool (guide in MCP server) and ask: "pull the memory of project X — where did we stop?". The AI calls recall_project and receives checkpoints, notes and recent sessions.
Checkpoints
The distilled layer is what makes recall fast: at every milestone your AI saves a checkpoint (state, decisions, pending work) via save_memory. The optional plugin ships skills that teach when to save and when to recall.
Search and drill-down
Everything is searchable: search_conversations finds the exact moment a decision was made and hands the AI a pointer to open the surrounding messages — down to the raw (redacted) transcript.
Team and on-premise
On the Team plan the workspace shares one archive. Need conversations to never leave your network? See on-premise.
